That Thing you Forgot to do Last Year (Spring Cleaning)!

If you're like me you may be a little ocd about cleanliness or if you're not and you're a total slob, don't forget your pets actually like a clean home too. There is an endless number of products that will blast away 99.9% of Mold, Bacteria, and Viruses but only a select few are safe for your pets. Traditional chemical cleaning products are both dangerous to you and your pet. You end up inhaling all the airborne particles and whether your pets are around when you clean, the residue can be picked up by their paws, then ingested while they groom themselves. Here are some alternative cleaning products that I use at home.

Seventh Generation
They make a variety of eco-friendly and green product from laundry detergent to diapers. I do recommend also wiping up even after you use their product with a damp cloth with water just in case the 'essential oils' are too strong.

Clean & Green
They specialize in products that clean and deodorizes pet stains. Note. When you think you are just about done cleaning up after your furry friends, think again! Clean with a black light to make sure you don't have lingering stains. I also like to use a black light when staying in hotels or moving to a new home. Sometimes it's best not to know but I just can't help it. I blame the show "Monsters Inside Me." In some ways that show ruined me.

So now that I've told you about some safe cleaning solutions, you know what is even better?
A simple mixture of vinegar and water in a spray bottle. The smell would be horrendous for a few minutes while you scrub but will dissipate shortly after. And you know what is even better than that? STEAM!

Invest your dollars in a good steam mop. You don't need to spend $$$$ on one just make sure that the temperature of the steam exceeds 212°F. Just be sure that your particular floor is compatible with the high temperature of steam. Used distilled water when possible. This is the one I have. It is very lightweight and only takes seconds to heat up which is great since I'm impatient. If you can, buy extra pads so you don't end up boiling your floor with a very wet cleaning pad. Also make sure Mittens and Fido are not close by when you are steam mopping as I don't think they would appreciate a hissing stick monster in their presence. Even if you are the handiest of handy people, please read the manual if you don't want to burn the house down or yourself.

So go on and start your spring cleaning a safer way this year. Comment below and let me know how it goes.
